Osteoporosis Signs and Symptoms

Frequently, patients with osteoporosis do not experience any symptoms until a fracture occurs. In fact, patients may unknowingly suffer multiple small fractures, resulting in lost bone strength, without experiencing any pain. As a result, osteoporosis may be a “hidden condition,” even for years, undiagnosed until the patient experiences a painful fracture and sees a physician.

Over time, osteoporosis may result in multiple fractures in the spine, resulting in such symptoms as:

  • Chronic lower-back pain
  • “Bands” of severe pain radiating to the sides of the body
  • Loss of height and/or spinal curvature
