Diagnosing Varicose Veins

A doctor can usually diagnose varicose veins through a simple physical examination. Additional diagnostic procedures may also be used to provide more detailed information that can help with treatment planning. For example, an ultrasound exam enables the structure and blood flow in the affected veins to be observed in more detail. Another medical imaging procedure, called a venogram, allows for even more detailed observation of the blood flow.
