Signs and Symptoms of Varicose Veins

In addition to the easily detected visual distortions on the skin surface, varicose veins can cause:

  • Pain
  • Cramping
  • Swelling
  • Skin rash, itching, or irritation
  • Ulcerations (sores on the skin surface), which sometimes bleed or become infected

Patients may also be at increased risk of significant blood loss if the skin over varicose veins is injured.
